Studio Skills: Printmaking

12th Feb 2020 3:30 am Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre

Sarah Bridgland is an artist based in Monmouthshire who has a practice rooted in printmaking, collage and sculpture. Sarah has been an Arts Champion for the Arts & Education Network: South East Wales and is experienced at working with schools which often informs her creative practice.

Sarah will lead this two-part course to explore the whole craft process from initial ideas to a final piece. This course is excellent for sketchbook development, and incorporates finding inspiration in local communities, research of contemporary makers, drawing, design development and making. In support of the experience, respond, create framework of the new Expressive Arts Curriculum for Wales.

Week 1 – Extend your knowledge of contemporary printmakers in Wales and beyond, consider the built environment as inspiration for print, and be introduced to a number of simple print techniques suitable for the KS2 and KS3 classroom.

Week 2 – Develop designs from the previous session, make a series of prints using a variety of printmaking techniques and take the process further by using printed-materials to explore paper craft as 3D objects.

The creative process presented in this course is transferable into your local environment. There will be a focus on using the local built environment to draw inspiration for print, and is adaptable to the local high street, or a wilderness.

The course explores contemporary crafts appropriate for creating multiples, and the potential for setting up small-scale social enterprises within schools, or in partnership with local cultural organisations.
