Discipline: Visual Art

Background

Dave Cartwright has worked as an art and design teacher for around 30 years. The vast majority of his career has been spent at Rhymney Comprehensive School in Tredegar, but he also spent a year in Canada as Head of Art and Design at High River High School, Alberta in 1998. Before becoming a teacher, David had a successful career as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer.

The department regularly achieves excellent results, and runs GCSE and A level courses in Graphic Communication from a state of the art graphic design suite set up by Dave within the school.

Dave provides training to teachers within his school and beyond, coaching staff on the use of Adobe Photoshop within the art classroom, and supporting the development of GCSE courses in Graphic Communication in other schools. He has also mentored student teachers as part of Art and Design PGCE courses for many years, working alongside both UWIC and Cardiff Metropolitan University. He currently works for WJEC as an external GCSE moderator.
