Carol is a freelance musician, arranger, mentor and teacher with over 30 years experience of teaching music in secondary schools. She is the Outgoing Director of Music at Basseleg School in Newport.

Carol is a passionate believer in the importance of the arts in developing well-rounded members of society, and feels strongly that a good, inclusive arts education should be an essential part of the learning experience for all pupils. Her career as a teacher has seen her embrace many changes to the curriculum, including the introduction of GCSE and the National Curriculum, along with several different A-Level and GCSE specifications.

In 2015, Estyn featured the Music Department led by Carol at Basseleg School as a case study demonstrating good practice in the teaching of the creative arts.

As a teacher and conductor, Carol currently works with Gwent Music to deliver good quality teaching and learning through individual and group musical activities. As a conductor, she has directed school choirs and bands, performing with considerable success at prestigious festivals, events and venues throughout Europe.

Carol is also an External Mentor for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs), working in partnership with EAS, EWC and Welsh Government to mentor new teachers, from all subject areas and in various schools, through their first year of teaching.
